New Broken Ranks Update – Changes to Pet Equipment, Balance, and Resting

Greetings, Taernians!

Another Broken Ranks update is just around the corner, and we'd like to give you a preview of the changes coming to the game. Here's what you can look forward to!

The update will go live on July 8th, 2026.

Please note that this is not the complete list of changes. The full changelog will be published alongside the update itself. Here, we'd like to focus on the most important highlights that may be of particular interest before they go live.

Changes to Pet Gear Ranks

The required levels and ranks of pet gear will be adjusted - see the table below for details. In practice, this means that gear which previously had a higher rank will yield fewer shards and essences when shattered or melted. Why? Let's quote our April DevBlog:

“When we changed equipment ranks for players, we left pet rares unchanged. At the time, we didn’t yet know how they would fit into the broader overhaul. However, we’ve since concluded that there’s no real reason for rare pet equipment from a single boss to have different tiers, especially since it directly affects their value and attractiveness.”

Important information for those of you trading on the Marketplace: all pet items whose rank is changing will be removed from the Marketplace during the update.

Whenever a rank adjustment also changes the type of flask required for upgrading, we'll rebalance any bonus stats gained through previous upgrades. This means that if you upgraded a piece of gear using a lower-tier flask than the one it will require after the update, its stats will be adjusted to match what that rare gear should provide at the same upgrade level. Any excess stats will be removed according to the following priority: first Power or Strength, then Mana or Stamina, then Dexterity or Knowledge, and finally HP.

The drop locations of two specific rare pet items, Basteya and Hussarion, will also change. They will no longer drop from Shadow instances (commonly known as T1), and instead will become available from Fyodor and GMO. We may also slightly adjust their drop rates in other instances where they remain available to ensure the overall drop balance stays reasonable.

Rare pet gear currently obtained from the Observer will also be reassigned to the Librarian - both the one found in the open world and the one encountered during the Daily Quest. As a result, the drop chances for all rare pet gear available from the Librarian, including those already assigned to it, will be adjusted. And what about the Observer? It will become a champion, meaning that, like other champions, it will drop set pieces appropriate for its level.

The End of Resting, the Beginning of Regeneration

This is a change many of you have been waiting for - we're removing the traditional rest mechanic as a separate gameplay feature. As mentioned in our DevBlog, it will be replaced with passive regeneration that works outside of combat.

Regeneration activates automatically whenever the area your character is standing on has the appropriate color. The weekly unrestricted resting buff will continue to function exactly as before, except that it now enables regeneration instead of resting. If you're in a party where only some members are able to regenerate in a given area, those who can will regenerate independently of the others.

Regeneration also works while moving, although at a slower rate than when standing still. We're currently finalizing whether stationary regeneration should match the current rest speed or be slightly slower in exchange for starting almost immediately after combat - even before you close the battle summary window.

Other Changes

The update also includes several balance adjustments:

  • Adjusted resistances of the Elemental Specters to improve damage balance between the Fire Mage and the Barbarian. In addition, the Fire Specter’s Fire Shield has been weakened so that it is less punishing for melee characters.
  • Reduced mob empowerment scaling at very high values. This change primarily affects low-level Trials of the Lodge.
  • Limited the resource regeneration debuff in the Trials of the Lodge - resource regeneration will no longer be reduced below the base value of 5%.
  • Adjusted Lightning damage in the starred rooms in the Trials of the Lodge. It will deal less damage in the lower brackets and more damage in the highest bracket than it currently does. Trial of the Trackers remains unchanged.
  • In the solo Trials of the Lodge, we'll introduce class-specific mob Might adjustments in brackets where certain classes significantly underperformed compared to others.
  • We'll introduce a cap on the maximum amount of Stamina that Frost Aura can drain.

That's all for now. Remember, these are just the key highlights -the complete list of changes will, as always, be available in the full changelog. See you in-game!
