Ready for yet another edition of the Winter Event? We hope you are, because your backpacks and deposits won’t fill themselves. ;) Mark your calendars - from December 23rd to January 2nd, you’ll be partying in Broken Ranks. Join us!
Old Father Winter or Santa Claus? Santa Claus or Old Father Winter? The old geezers are at it again, so help one take revenge on the other to have some fun and get a lot of presents.
Duration and limits
The Holiday Event will start on December 23rd at 6 PM CET and end on January 2nd at 10 AM CET.
Once the event is over (on January 2nd at 10 AM CET), a new NPC who exchanges your loot will appear. Make haste, because he won’t stay here long. He’ll be on his way on January 8th at 10 AM CET and all the leftover hats and stars will disappear from your backpacks.
In addition to that, there’ll be a limit on how many non-task mob groups you can kill. The limit will be 1000 but it’ll be reset during the event (on December 28th at 10 AM CET). This means that you’ll be able to defeat as many as 2000 free-range mob groups. If you want to check how many you’ve already defeated during the event, use the command /checkEvent.
Rewards and activities
Old Father Winter and Santa Claus will appear in Trentis, Alaril, on the Plateau, and in Beirn. They will give you tasks that vary in difficulty and profits.
Types of tasks:
- trivial (20-39),
- easy (40-65),
- hard (66-89),
- hardcore (90-109),
- almost impossible (110-139),
- extreme (140).
Completing them, as well as killing event mobs if you are lucky, will reward you with boxes containing boss entry tickets, currencies, and many other utility items. For most of the mobs, we recommend gathering a party to beat them quickly and efficiently. ;)
The maps will also be filled with event opponents who drop hats and stars. They’ll act as a special currency that you can use to open presents or exchange them for presents when the event is over.
Boxes dropping from Santa Claus’ minions can be opened by Old Father Winter and vice versa - both of them will be happy to put their hands on their opponent’s belongings.
At almost every level range, there are three ways of paying NPCs for opening the boxes: hats / stars (depending on who you ask to open them), platinum, and gold. The only exception is the lowest range where you cannot open them for platinum.
*You cannot take tasks or open boxes from higher level ranges, but you can still exchange stars / hats for boxes from them.
**You can take tasks, open and buy boxes from lower level ranges.
That’s not all. At every level range, champions will spawn from time to time. They have a 100% chance of dropping boxes (15 in total for the whole party per champion).
Spawning areas (for each level range from lowest to highest):
- Trentis Hamlet,
- Alaril,
- Khemenak,
- Dmorther Cliff,
- Frozen Lake,
- Beirn.
At the end of the battle between the two old geezers, Old Year will come to Broken Ranks. He will exchange your leftover hats and stars for gold or boxes (or he can help you open the boxes you have). As the old saying goes: “two dogs strive for a bone, a Taernian runs away with it”.
In the Premium Store, you’ll find a special, event cloak skin - the Caroler's Capra Coat. We hope that it’ll nicely complement your winter outfits and shield you from the low temperatures ;)
Changes versus the previous edition
This year, we focused mostly on the economic aspect of the event, meaning changing rewards in such a way that they are adjusted to the current state of the servers. The biggest change is limiting the possibility to exchange hats and stars for gold when speaking with Old Year - you’ll be able to buy or open presents but gold will become available only when you don’t have enough resources to buy presents. Why are we doing this? Lately, the amount of gold on the servers increased sharply and a sudden, big influx could negatively affect the economy. We want the event to not only be attractive but also beneficial for the long-term stability of the game. That’s why the main rewards from the event will be utility items - they can be used up quickly and are very handy, so they won’t imbalance the game economy.
Of course, we also made some changes to the presents themselves, both to the chances and the number of items. For example, we significantly increased the number and chance for tracks. If you want to learn what exactly you can get, take a look HERE.
We also adjusted the costs of opening and buying presents to the current situation on the servers:
- Bauble - opening: 12k gold or 400 hats/stars, buying: 2,5k hats/stars.
- Trifle - opening: 50k gold or 1 platinum or 2k hats/stars, buying: 9k hats/stars.
- Gift - opening: 125k gold or 3 platinum or 5k hats/stars, buying: 18k hats/stars.
- Present - opening: 200k gold or 5 platinum or 8,5k hats/stars, buying: 25k hats/stars.
- Set - opening: 350k gold or 8 platinum or 15k hats/stars, buying: 40k hats/stars.
- Collection - opening: 500k gold or 12 platinum or 22,5k hats/stars, buying: 70k hats/stars.
In addition to that, we’ll make the following changes:
- Made it possible to open Baubles at NPCs with level lower than 20 (required level changed to suggested level).
- Added psychoexperience to all mobs except for the easiest ones.
- Increased the droprate of hats and stars from all mobs except for the hardest ones.
- Santa's Bigger Helpers and Snegurocheks will now spawn in the University District.
- Increased the number of the hardest mobs in Beirn and adjusted their respawn rate.
- Trivial, easy, and hard tasks will no longer ask players to kill free-range mobs.
- Decreased the HP of Secretary's Assistant.
- Miscellaneous changes.
Thank you for being with us! We wish you a lot of fun, backpacks overflowing with gold, and deposits filled with items!
