Hello, Taernians!
Back in May, we wrote about guilds and announced some upcoming changes. Now that the update is fast approaching, it’s time to elaborate and tell you in more detail what to expect. We focused on making guilds in our MMORPG—both in the PC and Android versions of Broken Ranks—more intuitive and easier to manage, with a touch of balancing as well.
The update will go live on October 1st. As always, you’ll find the detailed changes in our changelog, which will be published around the time of the update.
Recruitment – No More Looking for Guilds in Chat
This is one of the more important changes. The entire recruitment system will be available directly from the main UI after clicking the guild icon. You’ll also be able to create a new guild from the same place. There will no longer be any need to visit a specific NPC.
The system works both ways: a guild can announce that it is looking for players, while a player can announce that they are looking for a guild. Both sides can set their own requirements and add a short description. Guilds can filter candidates by Power, Honor, level, and class, while players can define their requirements for the guild they want to join.
In addition, invitations and applications will no longer require you to be online. You’ll be able to apply to a new guild while still belonging to your current one, with the actual switch taking place only after final confirmation. Of course, you’ll still be able to invite someone directly just as before—such invitations will appear in the appropriate recruitment tab. If someone isn’t interested in receiving invitations, they’ll be able to block them.
The 2-day cooldown designed to prevent “guild hopping” will remain, but with one important difference. Until now, it started when you left a guild; from now on, it will be applied when you join a new one. Players who change guilds at a normal pace will barely notice it.
Managing Guild Dues
The system will calculate guild dues for you. They can be set for all guild members or individually for each member, with a choice of settlement period: weekly, monthly, or yearly. There will be two types available:
- Basic dues—a fixed amount in currency or resources, regardless of the player’s activity.
- Usage charges, where each guild member pays for their own usage: Temple effects, teleports, and food consumed by pets. You’ll also be able to see who used how much of each resource.
It is possible to enable either one type or both at the same time. If the Guild Chancellor doesn’t want any dues, they simply don’t have to set them.
WARNING! Dues are only calculated and are NOT collected from guild members in any way.
Changes to Guild Ranks
Until now, there were effectively three ranks: Chancellor, Strategist, and everyone else. We’re reducing the number of ranks to six, but each of them will now have a meaningful role:
- Chancellor—full authority, unchanged.
- Strategist—the Chancellor’s right hand. They will have access to sensitive functions such as setting dues and managing guild upgrades.
- General—can manage recruitment and change the ranks of lower-ranking guild members. Sensitive functions are locked.
- Captain—can use guild buildings and recharge them.
- Soldier—can use guild buildings.
- Aspirant—no access to guild buildings. A useful rank when you want to discipline someone without kicking them out just yet.
Ranks IV and above can only change the ranks of lower-ranking members. For example, a Strategist will not be able to demote another Strategist.
Changes to the Temple and Teleportation Tower
The Temple and Teleportation Tower interfaces have been simplified with both the PC and Android versions of Broken Ranks in mind. All effects and teleportation destinations will be available by clicking the central section of the illustration. Each guild member will be able to pin 6 favorite buffs and 6 favorite teleportation destinations to the main view.
We’re also bringing the Teleportation Tower in line with the Temple’s mechanics: it will require recharging, and a charge will be consumed whenever you use a teleport from the guild. A Teleportation Scroll will no longer be consumed for this. Teleporting to the guild, however, will remain unchanged—it will still require a scroll, which can be purchased in the guild itself or in the Premium Shop.
The Teleportation Tower will offer many more destinations, primarily near instances. Traveling around the world of Broken Ranks, whether on PC or mobile, will become much faster.
In the Temple, removing effects will no longer consume charges. You’ll also be able to remove one selected effect instead of clearing all of them at once. Because of this change, we’ll slightly reduce the maximum number of charges gained from a single recharge.
Buildings can still be recharged as before—directly inside the building, with no additional fee—or more conveniently from the UI for a small additional fee in platinum. Automatic recharging will also be available. The same rules will apply to replenishing pet food.
We’re removing the two different recharge options for the Temple and Teleportation Tower—from now on, recharging will always cost gold. The platinum cost will instead apply to resetting the cooldown.
Changes to Guild Upgrades and Resources
Resources are changing their role completely—they will no longer be required to recharge buildings, but will instead become an optional contribution that reduces the gold cost of recharging. The more resources you use, the cheaper it will be. There will no longer be such a thing as a “poorly built” guild.
Upgrade costs will be standardized—regardless of which production buildings you choose, the total amount of required resources will be the same. Upgrades with an additional platinum payment will be cheaper, and the acceleration effect will be stronger.
New resource orders will be added: 200 and 350 units. And to answer the question in advance, items such as Yoko’s Bone will remain in the game.
Because resources are changing their role, we’ll introduce a limit on their production. Guilds with very large stockpiles will have part of their reserves recalculated, and the excess will be converted into resources they did not previously possess—in smaller quantities, but into ones that will be more useful.
Other Changes
- Inactive guilds will no longer remain on the list indefinitely. The system will automatically disband guilds where nobody has been active for a very long time. The same applies to an inactive Chancellor: the rank will be transferred to another active guild member. The Chancellor will receive an email notification beforehand.
- The highest level of the Keep will provide +2 guild member slots.
- Guild history will be more detailed, with additional event logs.
- The Escort will allow you to travel directly to the guild, bypassing the plots.
- Guild Power will no longer take character levels into account and will instead be calculated based on the Power of its members.
Guild Upkeep Costs
Guild upkeep costs will increase—the current rates became outdated a long time ago. The increase won’t be drastic, however: we expect around 20–30% compared to the current values. With the costs spread across more people, guilds should still remain relatively inexpensive.
Guilds are the heart of every good MMORPG… A place where players not only play together, but also build something lasting—a shared history and relationships. We wanted this part of Broken Ranks to work well both on PC and on mobile. Because no matter where or how you play, your guild should be a place you want to come back to.
Adventure awaits!
