New Boss, Path of Exploration, and Social Quests – A Fresh Update for New Broken Ranks Players

Broken Ranks is getting a new low-level boss, social quests, and the Path of Exploration. New players, meanwhile, will gain an additional goal early in the game: a specific enemy, a specific story, and of course rewards, as well as reasons to get to know other Taernians. Because sometimes it’s worth starting an adventure with something more than just killing rats in a basement :)

On October 13, an update will arrive in our MMORPG, taking you to a place where the moonshine is running low, the fields lie fallow, and increasingly loud noises are coming from the caves.

Who Is This Boss for?

Not every threat comes from dark castles and forbidden crypts. Sometimes all it takes is for the neighbors to stop being friendly.

The Hamlet near Trentis is in trouble. Goblins from the nearby caves have started attacking the villagers, even though they used to get along with them... more or less. The peasants have grabbed their pitchforks and abandoned their fields. If things continue like this, the village will soon start running out of food or, heaven forbid, Billy’s moonshine!

Something has made the green runts change their ways. No one knows exactly what yet. Apparently, one of them, a goblin with some rather unusual interests, wants to make a deal and restore the old order. But is that really a good idea?

Who Is This Boss for?

The new low-level boss is something we’ve been thinking about for a long time - we want to introduce new players to boss and rare mechanics earlier in the game.

During the quest, players will learn the basics. They’ll learn that bosses exist, how to enter them, and that they can drop much better gear. They’ll also receive their first rare and, with its help, be introduced to things such as repairing gear and inserting drifs.

At the same time, due to the possibility of having drifs earlier, we’ve added psychoexperience to the rewards of quests intended for players below level 15. This way, a new player can feel a sense of progression before reaching the later stages of the game. 

The new boss, Taunty, whose very name should make you target him, will be available to solo players and won’t have any complicated requirements. The quest will activate automatically once you reach level 8.

What Awaits in the Darkness of the Cave?

Even so, you’d better stay alert, as a moment of carelessness could cost inexperienced adventurers their lives. Along the way, you’ll encounter goblins who are far less willing to talk than their self-proclaimed spokesperson. Once you reach your destination, you’ll discover what turned them into such a problem for the entire area.

The Game World Is Always Better in Good Company

The new update also brings two quests that will guide new players through something that matters greatly in any good MMO - connecting with others.

The first quest will unlock at level 18, and its goal is to encourage players to meet someone new. Fighting a boss together is a good way to start any new friendship. The second will appear at level 25 and introduce players to guilds - whether by joining an existing one or creating their own.

Both serve as a natural introduction to the social side of Broken Ranks - no pressure, just a little encouragement.

More Activities in the Game - Path of Exploration

We know you’re hungry for more and more things to do in the game, and for some time now we’ve seen untapped potential in a few areas. With this update, we’re greatly expanding the ways you can spend your time in the game by adding new activities - including the new Path of Exploration. For now, it will be limited to the Trentis area, but over time we want to bring this content to the other areas of the Map as well.

Until now, the Exploration module, visible on the Map, has only listed and shown your progress in completing enemies and quests within a given area. After the update, we’ll not only significantly increase the number of objectives by adding other activities already present in the game to Exploration, but every new discovery will also earn you a reward. Complete everything in a given category, and you’ll be able to claim an additional reward for completing it! Your progress will be further supported by improvements such as tracking options and markers on the Map.

What’s more, as long as you haven’t surpassed level 25, the Path of Exploration will offer constant access to 6 separate missions. Complete any of them, and a new mission will immediately appear in its place! It’s another way to spend some time between your other activities in Broken Ranks. If you’ve already reached the specified level, the quests will continue to appear until you discover all the Exploration objectives.

It’s worth noting that your existing Exploration progress will not be lost - you’ll be able to claim rewards immediately for completed objectives that were already on the list before the update.
